A Complete Service Station Shop in Modular Construction
For a service station alongside a busy Belgian motorway, Idelco constructed a temporary shop using modular retail containers. By linking multiple units together, a spacious, professional sales area was created where travellers can find drinks, snacks, and essential products — exactly what you would expect from a modern service station shop, but delivered in a fraction of the usual construction time.
Modular Construction in an Operational Environment
The main challenge for this project was the location: pumps and sales needed to continue operating during installation. Thanks to prefab production at our factory in Zwevezele and a tightly planned on-site assembly, we were able to build the new shop without disrupting daily operations. A second storey with prominent Idelco signage above the shop immediately serves as an eye-catcher from the motorway.
Completely Fitted Out and Ready for Use
Inside, the units are fully finished with white wall panels, an acoustic ceiling with fluorescent lighting, technical pipework, and neutral floor coverings. The open plan design allows for flexible placement of retail shelving, counters, and refrigeration. All utilities — electricity, water, ventilation, and air conditioning — were pre-installed in the factory, so the shop could be connected and rapidly operational immediately after placement.
Temporary, Relocatable, and Sustainable
Retail containers are the ideal solution for service stations, retail projects, and pop-up shops that quickly need a fully functional sales space. After completion of this project, the units can be dismantled, relocated, or reused for a subsequent destination — a flexible, circular method of construction that perfectly suits temporary commercial activities along busy transport arteries.
